How I learned to accept the power of Nyoom
We are back again with another battle report! I was able to play in my FLGS’s weekly conquest day yesterday (A rare event indeed) and we had a great night. Two games going and a few people checking out the models.
Back against ole faithful Steven and his SK (who’s name I am going to spell CORRECTLY today) and I have to quickly shout out my local gents who I play with. None of you would know, but I bring my two children (6 and 3) with me almost every time to game nights, it’s just the only way that I would be able to leave the house with any sort of regularity due to my schedule and my wife’s schedule. All of my locals are extremely accommodating and kind with my children and allowing me to be both an opponent and a father. So I just need to publicly acknowledge and thank their awesomeness and patience.
ANYWAY, sappy gratitude aside (Tis the season?) let’s get down to the business of hot technogreek on elemental daemon violence!

As you can see, nothing is really changed for me, I am still loving this list and where I am playing it in the current TTS tournament I didn’t feel the need to change anything. I sadly haven’t been able to paint much of this list currently because of a commission I’m doing but I will get there.
We roll up bulwark for scenario where the zones swap between being worth 2 or 4 points depending on if it’s an even or odd round. I felt this was a great scenario for me for a few points. I absolutely get to kill the neutral objectives and his objective quite trivially thanks to the power of chariots and how his list is structured. I have two major threats with unyielding meaning he HAS to win attrition to start scoring points. Something I’m quite happy with. So I have a plan. Now to implement it.

Early Game
Round 1 – Steven put some Ghols out, and told me his list hadn’t ever lost. We have some very competent conquest players in our local area so I was properly impressed.

Round 2 – Well. I got 6 out of my 7 medium rolls and Steven got one, this is BRUTAL and we laughed about it but dang. This makes it an uphill battle for sure. I have multiple units that are faster or at similar speed to his army and they have taken up board space. I put two wounds on the center objective thanks to the flogobollons and set up to do the same to the right side with my skorpios.

Mid Game
Round 3 – With the insane reinforcement advantage I had round two I decided to play this quite slowly and just set up bad charges for my opponent. I am willing to sacrifice a few chariots to the altar of “Give my polemarch and sacred band a side charge” On the left side I am doing a similar set up with my Companion Cav.

Round 4 – we are starting to run away with points due to the power of unyielding and getting the objectives. The pregame plan is working out great so far and sadly my opponent has been forced to take charges with strange angles into chariots and haspists.

Round 5 – But you can NEVER count out the Sorcerer Kinds, they are an extremely strong faction and they just don’t know when to die. Between the air ritual doing comical amounts of damage to my Sacred band and surrounding allies, and the fire ritual keeping things alive my opponent is doing a great job with the hand he has been dealt (me having 1500 more points on the table than him for 2 rounds)

Late Game
Round 6 – Sadly some dice things go very much my way. The skorpios gets to live on one wound and clear off the companion cavalry. The Sacred Band lives on one wound and The flogobollon’s punch through the center and take out the warlord cancelling a ritual.

Round 7 – I win the supremacy roll and manage to just barely kill the Trinvarta. From there It’s sadly unwinnable because those windborne will just never deal the 17 wounds left on the Promethean Oracle. We talk it out and I am ahead by more than 20 points before we start scoring the last 3 rounds. Not sure the exact numbers now a few days later but it was a great game.

Closing Thoughts
Dang, this was absolutely a bloodbath. Obviously I hit the Mario Kart greenlight race start booster with 7/8 mediums coming on turn 2. But my opponent was extremely cool headed and made great plays in spite of that.
What I did well – I played to the advantages my dice gave me. Specifically I turned a crazy reinforcement roll into points and making VERY costly for my opponent to get onto zones. I didn’t push the gas too hard. I actually managed to NOT MOVE MY FULL MOVEMENT VALUE SOMETIMES. A key skill indeed!
What I hope to improve – My left side was poorly unpacked. The rocks were impassable and I almost was unable to charge the rakshasa round 6 due to it! I need to be more aware of that and not trip over my own feet.
What my opponent did well – Zero salt and zero tilt. An uphill battle is only worse if you tilt and get salty. Sometimes it’s impossible, but feel free to take a five minute break if you need. We laughed cause our last game a few weeks ago the opposite happened. I got one medium and he got 6. It helps that we’re all friends, but he’s just a smart level headed guy.
After about 3-4 months, or when the TTS league ends i’ll have hit about 10 games and a quarter year with CS and as such am feeling the itch to swap factions. Normally I would’ve been able to paint the whole army in this time but sadly that hasn’t been the case! Had to paint some other minis from other games. My options are SK, OD and Weavers. I’m leaning towards SK cause I haven’t played them since the update so let me know if you have an opinion!
Overall a great game! As always feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, gossip, or to just talk shop. I love conquest and can talk about it all day. You can find me on Reddit as Iamarrest7, discord as Arrest, and Instagram as Arrest_Paints.
