I managed to sneak in a very late game at my buddies house after my shift this week and squeaked out a win against a very brutal Double Tontorr Single Drum Beast Wadrhun skew list. I made some tweaks to my list, namely moving my Eidolon out of the inquisitor units and into some Clockwork Hoplites. Here’s my list

My Opponents List
I don’t have it exactly, but it was
Scion of Conquest in 5 stands of Chosen of Conquest
Scion of Conquest on Drum Beast with Kiss of the Dilosaur
Chieftain with 5 stands of Veterans
4 stands of Veterans
Tontorr x2
As you can see. A big ole miserable meat mountain. 24 wounds on each dinosaur. Easy access to high evasion values. Pretty brutal, pretty awesome. A complete shift from the current go wide/MSU style of conquest and even though it was a heavy skew list it had some serious legs.
Round One
Neither of us have lights. As the Gods intended.
Early Game
To be frank, on round two I got 4/7 medium regiments to come onto the field. That’s quite high. So that does impact the game. But also my opponent got all his mediums so I don’t feel bad.

Couple proxies here, sorry! The hoplites are clocklites and the kataphraktoi are companion cavalry. We jockeyed for position on Declined flank and we denied each other some points each round forcing conflict.
Mid Game

I decided to leverage my much higher card count and just hit the gas. I killed off the left veterans with chariots and inquisitors, this allowed me to swap my hunted target to the middle chosen of conquest. I began to chew through that unit but I absolutely underestimated the tarpit potential of that giant unit. High evasion is BRUTAL and my opponent cleverly targeted my inquisitor units first removing my units with weight of dice attacks.

I just love this picture cause who doesn’t love chariots all the way on the other side of the table!

I finally cleared that middle zone and my opponent march charged a tontorr into my companion cavalry due to some unfortunate supremacy rolls. Thankfully there was good back and forth rolls on the supremacy rolls so it wasn’t a feels bad moment. Chariots at this point are just PEPPERING the big dinosaurs, doing dozens over damage over the rounds. I would like to point out that even in the flank, clocklites are so tanky. My mechanist MSU just survived multiple rounds of a drum beast in the flank.
Late Game

This was a key round for my opponent, each dinosaur only has between 4-6 wounds left, and he killed A LOT of stuff. But the chosen of conquest had to march charge the Talos and they crossed the rough ground and only did a handful of damage. Key point here is that my opponent is 8 points ahead at this point and so he makes the attrition call and sends both dinosaurs into my Eidolon Clocklites, who proceed to…not care. I lose a stand.

And the hero moment of the match -Round 7 – Talos reforms, clashes and kills some Chosen of Conquest, they inspire and clash back, but turns out Talos is pretty tanky! From the front he is D4 R4 Hardened 2 and it doesn’t hurt that he saved 10/11 rolls! I am painting him as we speak but I was hyped. The clocklites kill the red dino, and the chariot kills the blue one. I am in a position to score 2 zones a round and there is no way that the Chosen of Conquest kill my Talos in any sort of reasonable time (Three but he can deny one due to the scenario)
Wrap Up
We call it there and have a good chat about lists, the game, and the rolls. I snuck out a narrow victory due to having 3 rounds of unimpeded scoring. All in all it was a solid game of conquest, nothing tooooo dicey happened until the end when Talos made all those saves and at that point it was probably moot anyway. My opponent is VERY Good at conquest and I think this win takes our all time record to… 10 total wins for my opponent 2 total wins for me 😀 He is excited about his skew list and wants to tweak it a little more. I really like my list and I don’t have any changes currently. I want to play my companion cavalry much better next time, I was surprised how brutal they were even though they only lived a few rounds they did about 20 wounds to a tontorr without charging it.

Narrative Write Up
I like to write, it’s fun. I am not great at it but I like to write little blurbs about my games. I don’t have the delusion that you should be subjected to it so I’m placing it like this at the end of the report.
Theron turned his horse to look the Eidolon in the eyes and receive the scouting report. Being eye level with the creature was at best unnerving, but he was an old soldier and used to the repulsive reality of his world. Before he had retired the Scholae had not proliferated the creatures to the extent they now exist. In soulless monotony the Eidolon reported a large contingent of Wadrhun a half days run away. Theron relayed this to Thamyris, his current employer. Thamyris simply stated they would be forced to kill the Wadrhun.
Battle was joined swiftly. The Wadrhun were always a fearsome foe, but even Theron took pause as he saw three giant creatures behind the main vanguard. They were caught unawares and the majority of Thamyris’ force was in place ready to fight before the enemy could assemble. The Eidolon and his inquisitors were silent except for the whine of their servos as they tore through the opposing veterans, they were slaughtered in return but not before reaping a terrible toll. The gargantuan monsters joined the fray and began rampaging, their riders killing with incredible feats of strength and agility, some swinging down on ropes and cutting through his army. The automatons advanced and stabbed rhythmically, over and over and over, without pause, without fear, without feeling, often times stabbing a dead foe for several seconds before Thamyris could redirect them. From his vantage point on the hill Theron could see the monsters tiring, dozens of tiny cuts finally adding up. Frustration apparent in the mannerisms of rider and beast as they failed to break the machines. Theron could never understand why Thamyris decided to join the fray, but he couldn’t deny the efficiency of his creations.
One of the great beasts broke through and began rushing towards the supply lines and command structures, Theron was forced to ride out and defend his key infrastructure but was shocked when the beast veered sharply towards his regiment. More agile than should be possible it smashed into his companions and began the killing them wholesale. His family spear sung and he knew he had mortally wounded the creature before being forced to retreat.
Watching from a hilltop while his wounds were being bound, Theron watched as his forces regrouped. The Eidolon horrifically began to remove seemingly random parts from the fallen inquisitors, Thamyris removed clouded vials from his pouch and began to place blood from the great beasts inside. Fuel for more horrific experiments, Theron was disgusted, but duty held his tongue. Theron watched at the surviving Wadrhun watched in horror at the desecrations and he knew they had made dangerous, lifelong enemies.
