100 Kingdoms Theist/Feudal vs Sorcerer Kings
Hey all, My degree is almost over and I really wanted to get back into writing battle reports as a way to analyze my gameplay and get better at the game. I really love conquest and I have been playing Sorcerer Kings for the past 6 plus months and I knew my opponent, a great local from the LGS about 45 mins north, today was playing SK and I didn’t really want to do a mirror match so even though the army isn’t completely bought/assembled I busted out the 100K Crusaders. We rolled off and got head to head, used one of the suggested terrain loadouts and off we went!

List Thoughts
I love the crusader models, the Crusading Noble Lord, the Sicarii, and the archangel. They are actually why I got 100 Kingdoms.
My list was built to do one simple thing. Be a tarpit. I had a big goal with this game when I saw the scenario was to have a big crusader blob on zones and have the archangel between them so I could have the auras up and active and body block out of zones.
I wanted this game to be my list asking the questions and his list having to answer them. Based on what I knew about his list and how the reinforcement rolls I knew that I would be able to have a lot of pressure. Different scenarios will require different thinking but I made the point of making a gameplan I was happy with and sticking to it.
Round 1 – 2
He didn’t have any lights, I had my longbowmen get into a firing position. My opponents reinforcement rolls went HORRIBLY and he only got one unit of Initiates. I made sure that my crusader squad was able to double march past the longbows. (Don’t mind my empty stands of crusaders, the shipment got delayed and I haven’t gotten my boxes of crusaders/MaA)

Round 3
You can see the gameplay coming together. I am going to drop my archangel into the middle of the crusader blobs and just march onto zones and say “come and take it”

Here is my key mistake of the round and what I learned the most of. Don’t give into bloodlust. In round 3 I march charged the CNL and his crusaders to steal the zone. And then I saw that the household knights could charge the initiates. This was a huge mistake. There weren’t any rituals going. I had already taken the zone. Let the red haze pass and make better choices!

I killed initiates….I’m about to lose 500 points of HHK.
Round 4
I lose the supremacy roll. Another thing I should’ve factored. I did not have the bonus. I popped supremacy to try and survive. I knew I was going to march charge into a lot of things and steal zones with the army rule bonus so I figured I would use the blessed to survive.
Mahut makes the charge and he is isn’t the flank of the knights. With blessed from the theist priest supremacy I thankfully only lost one guy. As I activated the HHK I realized that I would be stuck for ROUNDS in a worthless combat so I decided to do a withdraw action and let my crusaders get into combat. I failed the roll and lost another two knights to the withdraw and then the flamecasters were able to spike the roll and get 10 hits and kill my HHK to the man. But it did allow my crusaders to just flank charge and kill the mahut in one activation though! Rakshasa did a march charge into the booty of the crusaders. SIDE BAR – I love how I built my crusader squads. They were made to ignore as much resolve as possible, because I knew the big blocks would be getting hit from flanks and rears. It worked awesome. Oblivious, Indomitable 1, and the resolve bonuses was fantastic and they were very tanky.

I really am kicking myself. Even though my scenario presence is amazing, I hold both important zones with only one of my crusader blobs in any real danger. Losing the HHK so dumbly was a huge attrition setback, if I had a bit more patience with them the game would’ve been very different.
Round 5
I get to go first and I try to get some damage into the danger kitty. I do some minimal chip and play passes. Interference getting into the casters at this point is just brutal and as a SK player I cannot wait for the changes they’re getting soon 🙂 Thankfully the Rakshasa whiffs into the crusaders and I get to hold that zone for a lil bit longer. Honestly that might be the saving grace for the game as I get more rounds of those all important points.
The right side of the game is much less volatile as I am able to pretty handily clean up things with the power of longbowmen, the sicarii MSU and the priest and his gang of merry men.

End of Game/Clean up
At this point in the game I have managed to clean up the Rakshasa and he is having to flail at archangels and sicarii with flamecasters in melee. The shield archangel is just so tanky and shrugs everything off. My opponent is wise and he stays in the game for the final quick rounds by sending flamecasters into the zone and giving them more scoring with the sorcerer but I end up tabling him and scoring a few rounds of free points.
I had a ton of fun with this game. My opponent played super well, especially with his brutal reinforcement rolls. I ended up with the victory in my first game as the 100 kingdoms. I learned a lot about not BEING A TOTAL IDIOT with my 500 point cavalry blob. I think if I held them back, let my tarpit clog up the zone and have them flank harder to kill the flamecasters and his other backline squishy models it would’ve been a much cleaner victory. I absolutely loved the style of the list even though i wasn’t impressed with the sicarii. The bonus to scoring provided by the 100k army rules is so fun to mess around with in a meta and game that really leans towards MSU. I loved divine purpose and the aura of it being active around my archangel. I can’t wait for my next game!
