Star Craft The Miniatures Game: TTS Tournament Round 1 Written Battle Report Terran Armed Forces Vs. Khalai

Alrighty! I have joined a TTS Tournament to sate my OVERWHELMING NEED of more Star Craft the Miniautres Game (SCTMG). To be completely up front, these SCTMG reports are going to be learning experiences. I am VERY new to this game and I am not great yet. I am also for some reason in love with Terran. I don’t play gunlines…ever…so there is a LOT of things I need to learn and improve on. (I imagine Zerg would be much more my style, but honestly…I bought all three factions so expect content for all the races). Round One I get matched up with a great guy Smerc (I’m sure he has a real life normal name, but I only know his Discord name. In fact, I am almost certain he TOLD me his name, but I cannot remember and I am very sorry.)

Pre Game

Round One is into a Protoss player, I decided to drop my Triple Goliath list instead of my Bio Ball list.

My List

It’s all the beef, just every single scrap of HP and armor that I can muster. I built this list thinking it would be a good drop into Protoss because of the lack of Armor surges currently.

Opponents List

Just a ton of Protoss goodstuff. Here’s the thing. The game is technically not even released yet. There isn’t a ton of changes that can realistically be made to a list, Protoss has 5 datasheets available to them. But there is some personal spice and flavor available for sure. This list packing 2×2 Stalkers is scary for sure.

We draft Scenario and end up with Divide and Conquer on Acropolis!

Round One

Round One Movement – Nothing too exciting here, we each hold down our natural corners and prepare for war. I plan to move into the bottom right with my Goliaths.

Round One End – I take advantage of going first to move my Marines back on the right side. Chip damage is done to the Goliaths on the left and the Adepts take the Shades towards the center.

Round Two

Round Two Movement – I really want to threaten Stalkers, if I can get the Stalkers off the board my Goliaths can just rush forward with relative impunity. So I position my Marauders to do just that….and then Artanis comes in and saves the day. Warping in place of the Zealots and into position so that he can take the shots from the Marauders instead of the Stalkers.

Round Two End – I pull off one of my few Clever Plays of the game here and use my first action with the Marauders to charge into a brutal position. All 3 of those units are now force to just use their tickle guns and try to fight Marauders with Medic Support. It’s an uphill battle for them until Artanis can come save the day. Neither Stalker unit gets shot and I am very scared about that. My opponent is positioning them SO well.

Round Three

Round Three Movement – Here. We. Go. We finally have those tricksy Hobbits Protoss right where we want them, where they can be shot. I use Terran Armed Forces to steal first action in the Assault phase. The top right is still just an intense disaster. But after all that I’ve taken 2 wounds on my Marauders (Medics are good okay)

Round Three End – Man, Protoss just don’t die. I already am seeing so many other ways I can play this matchup better from the first deployment, to making sure Stalkers don’t get to just be sneaky dirtbags all game. I do way less damage than I anticipate and I take a TON of damage. Things do not look great.

Round Four

Round Four Movement – Alrighty, I have some options left. I can’t kill both Stalkers because they are spread out too far and both have hidden. But if I can get the Stalker unit on the bottom, and clean up some of the other combats, I just might have a chance.

Round Four End – Well, my inexperience is showing now! (I should mention, these aren’t my first games, don’t feel too sorry for me…but maybe a little bit sorry :D). I order my shooting extremely poorly here, my opponent passes early and that lone adept on the top left quarter charges into my Marauders and ruins all my hopes and dreams. Instead of equalizing the score and only losing by a little bit, I lose by a lot a bit!

Post Game

My Opponent is a fantastic guy, yes he took me to school and taught me a lot of very painful lessons, but it was a great time and I had a blast playing. SCTMG is just amazing. The game is so fun, each activation and move is impactful and just reels you into the story of the game. Can’t wait for a rematch to try and regain some of my lost honor, but until then…thanks for the game!

What I Did Well – Not too much sadly this game, I do think I caught my opponent off guard by charging in the Marauders. But I think this is just a poorly constructed list, that I didn’t pilot too well. But that’s okay! We learn and we improve!

What I Did Poorly – Honestly I think my biggest mistake was not starting round one with my two units of Marauders coming from the bottom left and pushing in with Medic Support. I think, I haven’t cemented this idea yet, but I think that Terran doesn’t want to be split up like I deployed. I want to make a concentrated push from places of power. I will have to test this theory though.

What My Opponent Did Well – I really was impressed with his Stalker use. They were always so threatening, or in places I couldn’t quite reach, or in places where if I didn’t do something suboptimal they were going to get amazing value trades. It was a thing of beauty.

Next Round…Another Protoss! That report should be out Friday. I love SCTMG, I am excited to git gud. I am by nature a competitive guy so as I write this I am chomping at the bit to get more games in and get better, hopefully these help all of us improve!
