Conquest Written Battle Report – Sorcerer Kings Court of Fire Versus Spires Lineage Husky Boys

I snuck off with my two oldest to my friend Brent’s house. His family was kind enough to entertain (babysit) my children while we threw down a game of Conquest! I played my next iteration of the Court of Fire, this one with as many Elementals as I could shove into it. Brent brought a brutal Sovereign Lineage list that involved so many Husks.

My List

=== The Last Argument of Kings ===

Court of the Ashen Throne [2000/2000]
Sorcerer Kings

== (Warlord) Sorcerer [110]: Dancing Scimitar, Court of Fire

  • Rajakur (3) [120]:
  • Rakshasa Ravanar (1) [220]:

== Sorcerer [100]: Shu’laat, Court of Fire

  • Rajakur (3) [120]:
  • Efreet Flamecasters (3) [170]:
  • Rakshasa Bakasura (1) [250]:

== Raj [130]: Prijm Khanjar, Court of Fire, Bound to the Elements

  • Efreet Sword Dancers (5) [270]:
  • Efreet Sword Dancers (3) [170]:
  • Efreet Flamecasters (3) [170]:
  • Efreet Flamecasters (3) [170]:

As you can see, nearly max points of Elementals to abuse the healing potential of Fire Rituals. I beefed up the Raj unit of Sword Dancers with extra stands to help them survive things and also…kill things. I wanted to try out both Rakshasas. I liked having them in the list as some power players, even though I wish the Ravanar’s Speed Boost rule applied to Brutes AND Monsters. I do have 3 Windborne Djinn as Flamecaster Proxies, and two Steelheart Djinn as Sword Dancer proxies.

Brent’s List

=== The Last Argument of Kings ===

Husky guns [2000/2000]
The Spires
The Sovereign Lineage

== Lineage Prideborne [160]: Endocrine Overstimulation

  • Leonine Avatara (3) [180]:
  • Leonine Avatara (3) [180]:
  • Centaur Avatara (3) [190]:
  • Centaur Avatara (3) [190]:

== (Warlord) Lineage Highborne [170]: Ferro-Ossified Carapace

  • Avatara (3) [175]:
  • Avatara (3) [175]:
  • Incarnate Sentinels (5) [350]:
  • Siegebreaker Behemoth (1) [230]:

Husks, Husks, and More Husks. I am terrified of 4 heavy regiments, if they can come on the board before round 5 I will be in some serious hurt. That is so many Incarnates to chew through. And at Evasion 1 across the board I don’t really survive the Seigebreaker well either.

Scenario

We roll up Echelon for the game, and I feel like it will be an uphill battle, I can’t leverage my wild amount of medium regiments, and his large blocks of heavies are going to be able to push me out of zones. I need to be careful with this one.

Early Game

In a true display of Gentlemanlyness and Scholarlyness neither of us have lights, so this is our round 2

I get a solid amount of Mediums in round 2 and start pushing towards the zones. Sadly the Leonine are just a touch faster than I am and they are able to actually get onto the zone round 2 and start scoring.

Round 3 passed in a blur of “nothing really happened” I scooched forward a bit, and Brent actually got to have models come onto the table. In Round 4 I trade a unit of Sword Dancers for a Unit of Centaur Avatara, the Leonines shoot and eviscerate the Rajakur and the Flamecasters and we both get our easy objectives. Incarnates are poised to ruin the left flank and some Avatara are out wide causing me headaches as I don’t really have anything to spare to go and get them.

Mid Game

Round 5 Left to Right – He brings the flanking Avatara in to obnoxious positions, I use the Rajakur as incarnates bait, more pot shots fired by the Leonine and Flamecasters. Seigebreaker and Incarnates get stuck and can’t move, Bakasura kills off the Leonines and Prideborn and sits there MENACINGLY and then another unit of Avatara comes to be super obnoxious

Round 6 (I believe he pops Supremacy here) Left flank goes pretty well, the Incarnates are pretty well and stuck behind that lone Avatara and I have enough cards so that next round there is no way I have to activate either unit before the Incarnates. The Prim Khanjar Raj and Sword Dancers start tearing into the soft underbelly of the center line and force the Siegebreaker to back up and wait until next round to charge. The Centaur Avatara sadly kill the Bakasura to the wound, would’ve been amazing if he had lived. But that’s a tough position for him. And then the right flank…I don’t like the right flank. Those Flamecasters are done for. Defense 4 is so good into things without cleave it turns out.

Late Game

Round 7 – The heal train is going strong, I didn’t take the Mastery Vizier of the Morning Star so I ended up having a couple times where my regiments were broken and unable to heal from the ritual. It was painful. I will not be making that mistake again. Ravanar takes a huge chunk out of the Incarnates brick after they do some clever reform charge nonsense, the Sword Dancers and Raj go absolutely bananas one stand killing a Leonine, the others getting the Behemoth down to 4 wounds remaining. That lone Flame Caster in the middle starts eating away at the Centaur and Flamecasters on the right try their best to hold up the remaining Avatara Unit.

Well the Incarnates are able to clean up the Ravanar due to winning supremacy, and then the Ravanar’s Last Word ability triggers…..Insert Latin Choral Chants, The Red Health Bar Appears, Death Comes.

Classic Brent

Brent has a habit of rolling extremely great stories with his dice. Sometimes causing himself great psychic damage (He never tilts, just a phrase)

Well. Here is where we end it. The last two rounds blur, but here are the highlights the Incarnates kill the Flamecasters on the Left, the middle ones shoot and kill the Incarnates, and then the right side Avatara murder my remaining Flamecasters (Brent was ahead on points so he was able to just win by murder).

Brent wins by two points and it’s barely an inconvenience for him! A fantastic game that was a ton of fun. My kids loved hanging out with Brent’s family and hopefully there is more Conquest at Home in the future!

Closing Thoughts

List thoughts – I really liked my list, I tried this list out to see if I wanted to buy another two boxes of Efreet and go up to 9 stands of each variety, while it felt good it didn’t really feel necessary, I missed my Ghols and my Mahabarati and what not. Thankfully my wallet is safe for now. I liked both monsters in the list though. Them healing and being strong anchors is really fun.

What I did well – tough loss for this game! I think I really liked how I was able to use my big ole deck of cards to force Brent to get jammed up in his army. Multiple rounds he had regiments unable to do anything because they were tied up by simple Rajakur.

What I did poorly – I think a better plan for me would’ve been to put a token force on the left flank and push WAY harder for Brent’s zone. Especially when I was behind on points from round 2 on! Just getting better at playing my lists on all scenarios.

What I learned from Brent – As always a great game was had. I think he spread his forces out a lot better, used his ranged regiments better, and had a bit better target priority than I did.

Thanks again for reading! More Conquest TLAOK and maybe even First Blood content is coming! Let me know if there is anything you want to see besides battle reports or if you have lists you want me to try! I think I’ve had a wonderful time with my Sorcerer Kings, now I am going to play some Old Dominion!
