Heeeere. We. Goooo!
I had a great game night at the FLGS and played into an awesome 100K list that combined the Orders and Feudal sub factions into a brutal list where there were just SO. MANY. REROLLS. Every command stand and character was able to reroll all attack rolls, and every Feudal regiment could reroll all sixes. Just made things very tanky and very consistent.
I tried out a Court of Fire list, it was a bit hampered by only owning six stands of each flavor of Efreet but I was happy enough with it!

We roll up scenario 8 and get to the fight!

Early Game
Round 1 – Ghols come out to party. Mounted Squires are fast, Militia Bowmen are nerds.

Round 2 – More posturing! Ghols march charge some Squires, a lot of horses come onto my right side, and more nerdy archers. Militia Bowmen attempt to wound the objective and fail.

Round 3 – Here’s where some issues start to crop up for me. When I was reading the rules/spells/rituals of the Court of Fire I became so enamored with the idea of Intrusive Thoughts. Relentless Blows is fun! Click Clack bucket of dice makes my goblin brain happy. But to be completely frank. The healing is so good from Fiery Dominion. I alternated a bit between Thoughts and Dominion but I feel that was a misplay.
Steven snags the center zone and goes up 3 points. Ties up my Rakshasa with his Sealed Temple and takes some chip damage on the Household Knights.

Mid Game
Round 4 – I send up the painted Rajakur to steal the zone and get a few points. They die horribly to the HHK uninspired clash. Ghols finish off the objective and charge the HHK to tie them up and the Errant of the Shield Men at arms are able to scooch over perfectly and we end up tying on the zone. Steven leads two points at this point.

Round 5 – I do zero damage this round. I have had a serious of play errors, but dice went really, really off the rails here. I failed my Molten Blades spell from the Raj onto the Sword Dancers and bounce off the HHK horrifically. I have just tripped over myself time and time again in this game and it’s a bit rough. Not my normal standard of play but I don’t say that to discredit Steven, he played excellently. I simply point out my mistakes to learn from them.

The End Times
Round 6 – A valiant attempt is made but now, attrition has gone completely wrong and the Household Guard on the left have the Armor of Dominion. They will not go down easy.

Round 7 – Here is where we call it. I am down 14 points at this time and I can’t really claw it back, nothing I have will kill the Household Guard so that I can start scoring more than Steven and even if I did, I don’t have enough rounds to catch up! Steven played extremely well and it showed! My mistakes were exploited! My villages were pillaged! I was sent scampering back to the elemental planes to recover and learn for next round.

Post Game
Whew. Brutal game. This is definitely a moment of do as I say not as I do. I played REALLY poorly this game. I had list building errors, ritual errors, deployment errors, target priority errors, and poor scenario play. But that’s the thing. It was still a great time and I got to hang out with friends and play conquest.
Steven played really well. He was always in range with his aura’s, he had the correct units attacking the correct things. I severely underestimated the tankiness of the humble Household Knight that’s for sure. I won’t be doing that again!
Sadly as cute as Intrusive thoughts is, and it definitely does pump up damage, especially for Flamecasters that get tagged in melee, it’s just a pale shadow of the power of Fiery Dominion. So the list is going to get changed around a bit, might snag another few Efreet cause they’re just fun to paint 🙂

Okay, I know I know, people say Raj warlord is lame. I agree that they’re probably right! But there are moments when you are going to be able to have your cake and eat it too. I very often find my Flamecasters to be the last activations of my stack, meaning some of them are going to be targetting enflamed targets, so you get your Rapid Volley AND Deadly Shots. Sometimes Molten Blades just fails to cast and that extra damage could be helpful! I will probably head back to the Sorcerer warlord, but I want to try it out. Everything (Except the two Rajakur) can be healed with Fiery Dominion. I’m excited about this iteration. Going to play with the Court of Fire a bit more and then head into some Majarajah Warlord dual court nonsense.
Thanks again for reading! Feel free to follow along as I try to get good. Ping if you have any thoughts/comments/questions!
