Sorcerer Kings (Court of Air) Vs Nords (Shaman Half Bloods) – Written Battle Report

Had the chance to sneak in a TTS game this week as my wife, my children, and I are down with some sort of bug and I didn’t want to spread all my delightful germs to my locals.

Having had a great 3 months with City States and really enjoyed that process, it was time for a change. I love the Sorcerer Kings and I hadn’t played them since the update, which felt criminal based on how brutal they were before the update. I had spent so much time with court of fire that I really wanted to branch out into the Court of Air and play around with big birds.

Pregame

Honestly. That’s so many Doggos and they are crazy fast and they will absolutely rip anything in my army to shreds if they get the chance. I was very scared of this list. The thing I have going for me is that I just dump a bucket of attacks onto his evasion 2 and see what happens. It’s a dual glass cannon, tissue paper army slap fight and I am here for it.

Early Game

SO, that’s a lotta flanking lights, and a lot of dogs. But my lil unit of Ghols has totally got this. Barely an inconvenience.

Boy…. There are a lot of angry vikings on this board. My Mahut is proxying for the ranged Trinvarta, and the Bakasura is proxy for the melee Trinvarta. At this point of the battle I have two thoughts. Get spiteful winds going, because that will do so much work against my opponent and his massed D2/E2. And set up some speed bumps in the form of my Ghols.

This are about to get very messy. My opponent has some key advantages here. All his units have the same name. So making his stack is much easier. The only thing i’ve lost so far is the Ghols and I have been able to keep points parity. If I can make some clever choices with my stack this next round I’ll be able to put a lot of damage into things.

Mid Game

So as I said. Some key things happened this round that allowed me to survive and keep playing this game. First and foremost I won supremacy, my opponent had to decide between Werewargs and Fenr and I was able to order my stack Sorcerer Dhanur Sorcerer Dhanur. So whatever happened I was going to get a good activation. Sadly the giant CRANKED out the 5″ charge and was able to easily wipe the Rajakur. Court of Air SK feel very very flimsy when things actually connect I won’t lie.

Sadly the left and right flanks collapse for my opponent during this round. I am able to do a ton of work with my unit of Ghols on the right flank between the last three rounds. They picked up a doggo every round. Here’s a play I really don’t like. I get very very nervous with that Jotnar in my face and I panic and reform the windborne to get at him. Here’s the thing. That’s….a terrible battle. I should’ve just won the flank and been happy with it. Lately I haven’t been taking Lord Shaxx’s advice (Two zones is enough Guardian). I had a points advantage and should’ve played into that strength.

Here is where the game ends. I do something I consider truly clever and that’s use the special action of the Steelhearts to get onto the zone after they were in combat. My full unit of Steelhearts move charge to get into the Jotnar because of the evasion bonus and the reality that they will never kill it. The raiders sadly whiff into the Windborne Djinn and I am able to lock in that side of the board. We do a few more rolls to make sure the game is well and truly over and shake hands so to speak.

Post Game

This game was an absolute joy to play. Vaggerbond is a great opponent and we had a blast. Court of Air definitely feel very fragile but they need to be because they also do a TON of damage. Many times just for free because of Spiteful Winds. I was happy where this list was for a first draft but I wanted to learn more into a combined arms style so I traded the ranged trinvarta and some Ghols for a few units of Initiates and will test that ASAP.

Apologies for the delay in getting this report out! I recently became a father for the 3rd and 4th time!

Thanks so much as always for reading and please reach out too chat if you would like. I am going to be awake I promise 😀
