The States are at it again! This was a WILD game in the TTS tournament round 4. I played against 100K all the orders cavalry. Literally all of it. This was a very intense game against a great opponent and we had a blast with it. I’ve been crazy impressed with my games during the TTS tournament. Some extremely high level competitive games and everyone is just an absolute gem to play against.

Pregame
Okay, we’re playing on off balance a great little scenario. We have an infuriating impassable tower in the center (it’s fine. I don’t mind impassable terrain, it’s just impossible to move anything near it in TTS. The physics are not physics near the tower) Looking at the lists I know that I absolutely have to get points early. I can win this game EXACTLY one way. By scoring a lot in rounds 1-5 and not losing in rounds 6-10. So I tried to do that! Luckily unyielding is a heckuva rule and I will try my best to abuse. Literally nothing punches Ashen Dawn well so I just have to bite the bullet on that one and try? I love orders Cavalry though, just so. dang. cool. Even if I do get vietnam corgi flashbacks of pre nerfs ashen dawn and playing against huckleberry smash.
I’ll be honest. This game was so intense and so close I missed a few pictures. But I’ll do my best to explain what happened.

Early Game
Neither of us have lights. Because we are true scholars and gentlemen.
Round 2

My opponent gets his brave brave singular Medium. And thankfully I get 3 out of 7. Solid start. I auto on the flogobollon and bring in the comp cav and other flog to try and get some board presence.
Round 4

Alrighty. Round 3 and 4. I misplay my ipparchos companion cavalry horrifically and lose them for literally nothing. Those blades of eakides would’ve been SUPER helpful for the next few rounds but I messed up. I LOAD up the left side, 2 comp cav, promethean oracle, 4 chariots, and the haspists. At this point not much has died. 2 stands of Sealed Temple and Two stands of ashen dawn. I am scoring both zones now though and getting a point cushion. I think i’ve set myself up well for my gameplan. I really don’t love how I played my Ipparchos unit of companion cavalry and my one FloggingBolly but other than that I’m quite happy with the early game.
Mid Game
Round 5

Do you….Do you see how there are 9 crimson tower after my poor sacred band? I have begun quivering in my boots. I have a solid points lead but boy are the heavies on the table and I have to hold on. I kill another ashen dawn on the left and the CT over there are able to get a cheeky charge. At this point I’m trying to do damage and hold zones.
Round 6

Remember how attrition was never going to go my way? Well. That is this round. I have one saving grace. The Flogobollo in front of the left zone clutches up and makes 11 out of 12 saves from the ashen dawn charge clash in the flank and lives on one wound. We were blown away. My oracle is just…tanking the world and does a decent fight back. But boy are ashen dawn just so hard to chew through. I have broken through a couple skorpios into the my opponent side of things and I am quite happy with that. They’re my only real effective ashen dawn killers.
Right side is just a cluster. Here is a small error I didn’t see but need to learn for next game. My promethean holds against the two march charges which is awesome. But he is TOO close to the sacred band and we are now tied up. I am going to use my supremacy next turn and instead of clash charge and really blunting the power of the CT in front of me. I am just stuck taking it on the chin.
End Game
Round 7-8

So begins the endgame. I have lost the attrition war. I am only ahead by 3 points currently and the objectives are worth 4 points. He is going to be able to get to the objective on round ten so my only hope is to kill his warlord and sit on the zone with my skorpios.
Thankfully that is what happens! Round 8 and 9 go very quick. I lose supremacy and my oracle dies horribly. But then my two skorpios are able to clean up the warlord unit. I just make sure to put a skorpios in front to prevent any sort of zone stealing from my opponent. He gets to kill the objective on turn 10 and I manage to squeak a win out by 1 point.

Recap
All in all, this was a fantastic game. There is nothing but respect for my opponent Drey who played an awesome fluff filled list in a fantastic way. I had some epic defense rolls at key times and there’s always small things that can be done to play better or differently but I was very impressed with his play. I managed to sneak out a win despite some major errors and sometimes that’s how tournaments go. There is just always going to be some RNG involved with the pairings, dice, outcomes, and rounds.
Things I did well – I knew what I had to do to win, I was able to predict exactly how this game would go. I would struggle with attrition but just had to get points on the board ASAP. I think I deployed (Generally not unit specifically) well by having my overloaded left flank.
Things I need to improve on – I was much too cavalier with my chariots. They needed to be much safer, They were my life line and I don’t know why I pushed them so far forward after getting the objective. I also tried to send one over to the right side mid game…which was so dumb… he floated in the middle for a round and did nothing. I should’ve accepted the death of the right side and called it good. Also, not losing the ipparchos for nothing. Promethean was poorly positioned as well. All in all a bit of a sloppy game from me! But sometimes you’re tired from thanksgiving the day before and you play sloppy. It’s important to be flexible. Be like water.
Things my opponent did well – I think my opponent played his game really well. I like how he had a solid split in his forces, for the most part it was ashen dawn left and crimson tower right. Really gave him some intense flexibility. He was very smart with his actions and blessed rules, making sure to only inspire when necessary to not waste actions on his hyper elite army. A really important skill to make an army like his work. He clearly knew his math and his numbers and his army. Just a great player.
Depending on how the tournament goes I believe there is one more round, so next week it’s either a CS mirror match or SK vs CS showdown. I’m excited for either one!
As always thank you so much for reading. I do this to improve but it also is really cool to talk with people about gaming! Feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, gossip, or to just talk shop. I love conquest and can talk about it all day. You can find me on Reddit as Iamarrest7, discord as Arrest, and Instagram as Arrest_Paints. I’m trying to convince the Line of Sight guys (The website hosting me) to start doing some custom tokens and gaming aids for conquest so let me know what type of MDF laser printed gaming aids you would like for YOUR faction. I’ve already got them working up some stuff for Weavers.
