I am currently out of town for a questionably useful school conference and I had the chance to play some Conquest over TTS against a friend from about 2 hours north of me. I was playing my Yoroni and he was playing his 100 Kingdoms.
TTS is a great tool, it doesn’t replace the in person version of the game for me by any stretch of the imagination but it is still really fun. It’s nice to get some practice in with your list and it still has at least a sliver of the fun social components I love about tabletop gaming.

Household Knights (3) [170]:,
I was running my updated list from my game with Mike last week, Dex (His real name’s Braden) was running a brutal Theist/Feudal list with a LOT of ranged power. Clocking in at an eye watering fourteen cards and 1 relic that let’s him pass activation back to me, I was behind the curve even though I had 12 cards. Something I REALLY loved about his list was that there were 3 wizard/priest characters and they did so much damage.
Round 1
Typical round 1 stuff, I didn’t take a picture. Dex’s reinforcement rolls were pretty sad and mine were below average throughout the whole game. We chatted about how it’s painful that everything in 100k feels like it has to be X + Feudal.
Round 2

My reinforcement rolls went…a lil bad. Only getting one out of six mediums definitely hurt my ability to claim the board and Dex wisely got his ranged units covering the zones and his cavalry ready to march charge. At this point I felt a lot of pressure in terms of “He’s going to just take over the board!” and looking back I definitely need to take a few breaths and review the scenario. This isn’t what I would call a super live scenario. With only 5 points available per round. I positioned out of range so that if he wanted to shoot me he would need to do a full march, I liked this play. I needed to get some board space, I wanted him to come out of his bunkers. And yoroni has the tankiness and wounds to spare. Looking back I should’ve brought out some Tengu Ayakashi instead of Bushi, start plinking away and knights.
Round 3

I lose a lot this round, I didn’t play around threat ranges well and he utilized his higher card count to really punish my units, getting to attack with almost every ranged unit by activating them last. I did some minimal chip damage to the infantry block on the right and lost a few units of birds and my domaru. I really need to not go SO fast with my Tengu’s. I’ve been playing them poorly and they overextend and explode.
Round 4

I am a bit behind at this point but between me starting to make some more clever plays, a bit smarter activation order choices, and some poor dice from Braden’s ranged units I begin to claw some space and points back. What I am happy about with this picture is I was willing to be flexible with my activations and I march charged my flying tengu into the merc crossbow unit and they were unable to shoot my big blob with the kitsune.

End of the round it’s going….precariously. Attrition is swinging back towards me but the chip damage from the double mage, double crossbow, double longbow is starting to add up. Looking back into this style of list I needed my Kami units on the board MUCH sooner. I was very impressed by how much they laughed at shooting. Between innate tenacious 1, tenacious 2 on the mid unit, and then indomitable 2 for any sort of ranged resolve shenanigans (From spells, relics, etc) They just laughed off the shooting for 4 rounds.
Round 5

This is a wild round. The revenge of the Kami. Seriously. I love the Kami. They just surprise me and impress me every game. I clear a bunch of zones. Sadly my Yokai dies to a horrifically bad defensive roll. But I actually jump ahead on points and my plan, at the end of this round, is to clear the last stand of the infantry blob on the right. And then next round kill at least one stand from the merc crossbows and let him table me. Being ahead on scenario, if I kill everything that can score, I will win by default.
Round 6

Disaster! I lose the supremacy roll, even with priority. My left unit dies, then my middle, my right unit holds on against the men at arms, mage, and crossbows but at this point my plan is off the rails. I will die next round and I can’t score anymore. We score it out and with the extra rounds of scoring Braden is able to win 14-8.
Closing Thoughts
Honestly. I am loving Yoroni, from my last game I had the goals to activate more fluidly to take advantage of the ideal system and I was….better at it…..but not where I want to be yet. Some key things I learned from this game was the wild tankiness of the Kami into shooting and how that will shape my gameplay into gunlines in the future. I have no major changes for the list at this point. I am really happy with it and my custom bases are on the way, painting begins as soon as they’re here! As always hats off to the absolute gentleman of an opponent I had who played an amazing game piloting his list like a champ. My goal for the next game is to slow down a bit. Because Yoroni is so new I am feeling a bit of pressure to go faster with my stack choices and activation choices. I am not a slow player by any stretch of the imagination and I am not even close to clocking out. I need to make sure I take the time to think through my turn and my opponents turn. Setting up opportunities like I did in round 4 where I could ruin his plans by activating things they don’t expect.
Narrative Recap
Hayasumi didn’t feel the dance today. Didn’t feel the joy of the prime realm as she waded through the men, arrows and horseflesh of these faceless assailants. She killed and killed. But there always seemed to be another scared farmer to take their place. Izanari had simply said, “Hold here” and so she held. Her clothes were riddled with arrows. But they had barely penetrated. There were just so many of them. The awe she had felt earlier against the savages from the north turned to ash in her mouth and she was forced to slaughter these common folk. These were not the battles she was born for.
Genzan, the Father Below, looked across the field at Hayasumi and laughed. Such unnecessary effort. Izanari’s warband was losing bodies at an alarming rate but Genzan and his Kami were filling the holes in the lines and the human wave, unstoppable and innumerable, was beginning to break against them. Genzan gave a quick nod to his compatriots and they began taking, quietly, the relics of the theist priest they had just slain. Arrows and bolts continued to rain against them but his Kami laughed, reveling in the small, insignificant wounds. Relishing the pain and sensation they brought. This was nothing compared to the crushing pain of the elements.
By the time the retreat had been sounded, Genzan had multiple faith fueled relics from the humans stored quietly away. Ready to be inspected and studied. These humans had breached the realms and allowed the Yoroni in, He would widen the breach.
