Hobby Streak Day 6 – Intercessors are Sweaty Now

Today was also a pretty chill hobby day, I had a bunch of people over for Commander in the evening, and while we played I threw together a unit of Intercessors.

I’ve been playing Space Marines for almost a year, and this is my first unit of normal guys. Unfortunately, they were bad enough when I started playing that I didn’t even think about them. Fortunately, they’re now kind of monstrous, and I’m really excited about playing them in a Stormlance list.

First, I’ve been teased relentlessly about being a decent painter and not drilling out my barrels. Prior to very recently, I’ve only had an incredibly old pin vice drill bit, worn out from pinning hundreds of Warmachine models together, and using it was infuriating.

Then, my lovely wife bought me a new set of pin vice bits and they cut through HIPS like butter, so I decided to give it a try.

I can’t deny, the look is better, and I actually think this will be more fun to paint. It is a bit of a pain though, and I’m not sure if I actually think it’s enough cooler to justify the time investment.

I also had a friend of mine 3d print up some Space Wolf specific bits and bobs, and I threw a few of them on strategically. Firstly, everyone gets a right shoulder pad with neat stuff. The Sergeant got a 3d printed Power Fist because the unit can take one but the kit doesn’t seem to have one in it. He also got a sweet wolf pelt capped helmet.

I really dislike trying to find the nearly identical bolter out of a unit to measure range from the grenade launcher, so I went ahead and gave the grenade boy a special helmet as well.

I’ve primed these up since taking these pictures, and I plan on using my airbrush to get basecoats down on these and the Gladiators at the same time for tomorrow, and then I get to start doing the fun aurora bits and some freehand panels on things, which I am very excited about.

Thanks for reading, we’ll see you next time!
