Hobby Streak Day 2, Exodites and Eldrad

Day 2 was a pretty tame day all things considered. I mostly spent time building a bunch of these partial Windriders so that I can play the list I’m practicing with while I wait for Raptadon Hunters to come back in stock to convert the actual models I will be using as Windriders.

It is, I will admit, more than a little silly, but I want to use the top plate of the bike for armor accents on other models and this is enough to get the general gist of the silhouette down. Once I have all my Raptadon Riders built, these will probably just get used by my kids as painting fodder.

I did build Eldrad, though he’s about 80% blue tacked together because I want to paint parts of him separately. I’m tearing my hair out trying to figure out what to do for converting characters like this with iconic weapons, armor, and sculpts into Exodites and I’m drawing a bit of a blank.

And then of course I almost finished the first Shroud Runner mount. Yesterday we posted the right facing side, now we post the left facing side. I’ll finish him and his rider up tonight probably and get on to the next thing in the queue.

I also played a game with the list on Tabletop Simulator and learned two important lessons.

  1. This list probably doesn’t have the output to fight Custodes
  2. I really hate playing on TTS. I can’t focus on the game the same way I do on the tabletop, and I play significantly less carefully and cleanly because I mostly just want to get my turn over and get back to painting. I suspect I’m not going to be spending any more time with the platform.

We played Lynchpin on Dawn of War.

I went first and gave him two really easy charges for no particular reason. The Rangers are suiciding to score Engage on All Fronts.

He came out and killed all my Shroud Runners and the forward unit of Shining Spears.

I cracked back by killing one (1) Warden and three (3) Vertus Praetors with my entire army.

And then he killed or engaged everything and the game was over as I’d scored 3 points on primary twice and wasn’t going to score again.

Definitely a bunch of pilot errors here, which is frustrating because I’m reasonably confident I don’t make any of them if I’m playing on a table.

Anyway, that was day 2 in the books, tomorrow I’m planning on having finished pics of the first Shroud Runner and some shots of working on a converted War Walker.

Thanks for reading, see you next time!
